---After a long night full of shocks, things got even worse for Mayumi when the bizarre creature still hadn’t disappeared.
It stood behind him, motionless, yet moved with each of Mayumi’s steps, like a living shadow.
He spun around, shouting:
“You… what are you doing just standing there?!
I’m sick of you!”
But the creature remained silent, its green eyes glowing faintly in the darkness, the light from the coins on its hands sparkling like tiny stars in the shabby room.
Mayumi took a deep breath, muttering to himself:
“Alright… whatever… the important thing is I have no coins to eat with anyway!”
He plopped down into a chair, his head full of worries, whispering:
“If only money would fall from the sky… even just one coin…”
At that exact moment, the creature’s eyes flared brighter.
CLINK!
CLINK!
CLINK!
The coins on its hands shone a dazzling greenish-gold, reflecting off the ceiling and floor.
The air seemed to vibrate with the rhythm of the light, making Mayumi’s heart race. And…
WHOOSH!
A bill dropped onto his head, spinning in midair before landing perfectly in Mayumi’s hands.
He laughed, eyes wide with amazement:
“Oh… my god…
I can’t believe it… you just did something miraculous!”
In that fleeting moment of joy, he forgot all his worries, laughing loudly in the empty room.
But fate was never that easy.SMACK!
Mayumi’s foot slipped on the floor, his body losing balance.
Before him, an iron knife stood upright, its tip pointing straight at him as if to pierce him.
His heart pounded, cold sweat running down his spine. But luck smiled upon him again.
BANG!
He dodged just in time, sliding out of danger, the blade mere centimeters from him.
Panting, face pale, both exhilarated and terrified, he muttered:
“Ha… so lucky… but why do I still feel danger hanging over me?”
The creature stood there, silent, as if it didn’t care at all.
But the coins on its hands continued to flicker, as if reminding him: “Luck is a double-edged sword.”
Mayumi thought to himself:
“You…
I don’t know what you are, but I’ll have to learn to use you.
And I won’t let you run wild on your own.”
